Our Mission
Our mission is to provide resources to increase the number of medical school acceptances among African American HBCU undergraduates, and to provide resources to HBCU medical schools to facilitate graduation among African Americans, with a focus on the successful matriculation of Black men.
ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
We are committed to increasing the enrollment of African American Males into Medical Schools and supporting their matriculation as they pursue careers in Medicine.
Currently, the enrollment and graduation rate of young African American males pursing careers in medicine is at an all time low. The priority of the foundation is to address this crisis.
WHO WAS DR. TODD?
Dr. David B. Todd Jr. was the first Black cardiovascular surgeon in Nashville
He and his team performed the first open-heart surgery in the city of Nashville in 1972, followed by performing the city’s first heart transplant. Many of his patients that received these surgeries are still alive today.
Dr. Todd was a renowned surgeon, a revered teacher and a much loved member of the Meharry Medical College Faculty
Dr. Todd authored numerous scientific publications and under his leadership Meharry built an innovative Cardiac Surgical Program.
